I've been home from Vancouver for a few days now. I had a great time visiting with my sister, and of course spending a day yarn crawling with Uli. Uli did a great job of recapping our day here.
I'm happy to say that I have one more week off, returning to work on August 11th. I'm enjoying my time off, and could definitely get used to this life! The week ahead will hopefully find me sending lots of time spinning and knitting. Also need to clean out the fridge in preparation of our new one being delivered on Wednesday. Joe and I were finally able to get out today and purchase a fridge. For an extra $20, they will even take the old almost dead one away, which we are very happy about. Also on the schedule is the 50th Anniversary celebration of my in-laws, for which my parents are also coming up for. A parent visit of course requires some major house cleaning, but it really isn't in that bad of shape.
I have few things to show you today. First, the socks I knit while in Vancouver. I cast on for these my first night there, and finished on the last night. I used Trekking yarn that has been in my stash for some time. I really enjoyed knitting with this yarn. I am calling these socks "Vancouver Trekking Socks."
I also have some handspun to show you, which I finished up a day or two before leaving for Vancouver. It was spun from Louet Northern LIghts fiber in the Pastels colourway. This is the easiest fiber to spin, if you are a beginner, I highly recommend it. It is inexpensive and comes in many colours. I think this is the fourth colourway that I have spun up, with two more in my stash. As I am spinning thinner, I am getting more yardage from a bag of this fiber. If memory serves me correct, I have about 470 yards of this stuff, and am thinking of making something lacy with it.
Before I sign off for today, some vacation trivia for you. A sign that this has been a great vacation for me is the number of yarn stores I have been in: ELEVEN! Number of yarn stores in which I have made a purchase: only FOUR. I therefore think that entitles me to do some online fiber shopping, don't you? After all, I have some birthday money burning a hole in my pocket!
I really like to color of your Trekking socks, they are totally you colors! ;) The Louet handspun is making me drool, Zoe would like to share that those are lovely colors. What can I say, she's got great taste. lol!
