Today I made the ferry trip over to Quadra Island to attend a spinning workshop that was part of the Fun Knits Knitting retreat. I chose to attend just one day of the retreat this time around. It was a great way to still feel part of the retreat and to catch up with some knitting friends without being away from home for the whole weekend.
Regular readers will recall that I recently decided that I wanted a spinning wheel. I was really hoping for a used wheel, not wanting to put out the major $$ required for a new wheel at this point in my spinning life. Well, when Shelley told me there was a used wheel for sale today, I literally gasped! After learning trying, and eventually sort of spinning on this wheel today (let's just say I have a longggg way to go, it's a lot different than with a spindle), she came home with me. I present to you my lovely new wheel:
I'm told that she is a Louet S-90. I've tried to confirm this online but have been unable to do so. If any of you kind readers can tell me for sure, I'd really appreciate it.
I'm not one to normally name possessions, but for sure this wheel needs a name. Any suggestions?
Oh Brenda I am GREEN with envy. No name suggestions, though.
So, can I invite myself over for a lesson sometime?
; )

Woohoo! Congrats on your great purchase. :) I think you may have a Louet S71.
So does this mean you can't spin on it until your birthday? LOL!

Certainly not a S90, but possibly a S75, take a look here:

I think the wheel looks like an Agatha.

Wow! That's fantastic! You are going to have so much fun learning on your new wheel.
I didn't realize the retreat was already happening - what a busy weekend this was. 4 different events that I wanted to attend. How does that happen?
Finally catching up on blogs - sorry I've been absent.
I love the Thanks a Latte cards -- but those hula dancing penguins are too cute for words!
Your handspun you showed on your niddy noddy is gorgeous -- think how fun it will be to start producing yarn on your wheel!

It seems to share more features with the S75 than the S95... perhaps it's an earlier version in the S7- range?
I'm really bad with names... Emily springs to mind, though. Let us know what you decide on for a name! :)

What a treat. It looks fantastic and like a good sturdy wheel. Once you get use to it, I think you are going to spin lovely yarn.

Hi, my name is Hailey and I'm 12 years old. My brother, Alexander passed away in 2006 from a heart defect and now I keep a blog in his memory to reach out to other kids and families and do acts of kindness in my brothers name.
I found your site and wanted to give you Alexanders award for having a site that spreads the message of hope and love.
I don't know how to do html so please visit my blog www.alexandersheart.blogspot.com and copy the award to put on your site.
If you wish, give this award to 3-5 other blogs or sites you feel share the message of hope and love as well.
God bless, Hailey

Many cool Fall mornings will be spent at this wheel I'm sure. I see the early October morning sun rising out of the East over a crysal clear river, flowing warmth into a generously lighted room. This wheel says Misty or Autumn to me.
