It makes it so much nicer going into a new week when the weekend has been a pretty good one. Sometimes it's hard to find the balance between enough busy-ness and relaxation. I feel like I was able to acheive that balance this past weekend. Saturday was started by a couple relaxing hours reading in bed, then computer and knitting time. The afternoon was spent shopping with a good friend and co-worker. It seems like we rarely get together on the weekend, but always have such a good time when we do. We have vowed to do it more often. The main shopping goal was to look for new glasses frames for myself. I wear contacts the majority of the time, but like to have decent glasses to wear during the weekend, and as a back-up overall. My current pair has a scrape on the frame, so I have felt like I always need to wear my contacts. I'm happy to report that my third trip into the store was a success, and I'll soon be sporting new specs!
On Sunday, my parents came up to spend the day with Joe and I. We had a great visit. We went for lunch, to the fishing pier (for the best ice cream in town) and for a very long walk. The walk was actually much longer than we intended. There is a nice park with trails near our house. We explored some trails we hadn't been on before, got turned around a bit (but never completely lost). The result was that a short walk turned into about 90 minutes, and around a 6 or 7 km trek! I'm really tired today, and am sure my parents (particularly my poor mom with rheumatoid arthritis) are feeling it as well.
Today's gratuitious kitty picture shows Buttons in one of her favourite perches, where she spent several hours this past weekend. The basket is on top of the kitchen pantry. I think this is one of my favourite Buttons pictures. (After I write this entry, I'm going to update the Kitty Photo Gallery wtih all the pics I've posted the last few months. I noticed the other day how badly out of date it is.)
Finally, some knitting content. Thanks to those who took the time to respond to my question the other day. I assumed that four minds (counting my own) are better than one, and since the three commenters agreed with me, I assumed I was right and finished the first sleeve to Le Pull. When I did the other side (the pattern instructions I didn't show you), it looked a little funny, but hopefully it will go together nicely. No picture, it's just a boring white sleeve. I also started a new project, to counteract the knitting slump I was in last week. The picture shows the beginning of the first sleeve for what I have unimaginatively named "Strawberry Ice Cream." I'm doing this as part of Erica's Candy-a-long. It's Mission Falls Colours Cotton that I purchased on a big cone from eBay a while back. I'm using the Rosedale pattern for a basic zip cardie, something I could really use in my wardrobe. The sleeve was a little hard going on my wrists using DPNS, but I just remembered that I had some addi turbos in the right size to magic loop the sleeves, and it is already feeling much better.
Hope you all have a good week. I'm hoping to have a quiet one, as I need to preserve myself for Friday, when I'm participating in the BC Cancer Society's Relay for Life. I'm on a team with several co-workers. It should be a lot of fun, and supports a good cause. The hard part will be being mostly awake from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. It's been a long time since I've done that!
Good for you doing the relay! I feel strongly about supporting cancer research and I think I'll put the relay on my list of things to work on next year.
I enjoy checking in with your blog and your mention of Campbell River spots. My husband and I are from the Parksville/Qualicum area (now living in the lower mainland) but we love the CR area and try to get up there every year to Painter's.
Hope you're having a great day.
