First Lace Shawl

The Diamond Fantasy Shawl was blocked yesterday, and the photo shoot completed just a few minutes ago.  The blocking went very well, I'll never be nervous about blocking again.  I had been contemplating purchasing a blocking board, but am glad I didn't as my living room carpet worked perfectly.  I followed the Yarn Harlot's blocking instructions here.

Overall, I'm thrilled with how this shawl turned out.  There is a glaring error that didn't become evident until blocking, but it's my first shawl and I there is definitely room for improvement.  What I love about this shawl is how light and airy it feels after blocking.  Anyhow, here's the pictures (all clickable).  I probably have overdone the amount of my pictures, but oh well!

The colour isn't as accurate in this next one as the pole I draped it over was right in the sun.  I think it's kind of a neat picture anyway.

Details

Pattern: Diamond Fantasy Shawl by Sivia Harding
Yarn:  Sweatermaker Lace Weight Yarn from the Island Hues series, available exclusively at Fun Knits.
Needles: 2.5 mm
Modifications: None
Started:  April 14
Completed:  September 2
Comments: Great pattern that I'd definitely knit again.  I neglected this project for several months, and only picked it up again in mid August.  Since that time, I couldn't put it down.  It's definitely a fun and rewarding pattern to knit, and Sivia's instructions are fabulous.  The only change I'd make if I were to knit this again is to use a larger needle.  I have very loose tension, so went down to a size 2.5 mm needle.  I really had no idea what knitted lace was supposed to look like.  I'd probably go up to a 3.0 mm needle if I were to knit this again with lace weight yarn and then I'd have a larger shawl.

Very pretty. I have not worked on mine anymore. Still at row 39 or so. I ordered a chart keeper from Knitpicks so I hope to be able to take DFS with me.

That's really pretty!

It looks absolutely perfect to me! You did a beautiful job. Now - how about a model shot? Maybe you could get Joe to come down off the roof long enough to take one.

Looks great Brenda.

Error? What error? Nobody but you is ever going to see it, they'll be too busy boggling at the "Ooh, that's so PRETTY! And you MADE that???" gushing.

It's stunning!

Brenda, it's gorgeous. Your pictures of it are lovely, too. Now I'm even more exited about finishing mine! I'm almost halfway through the eighth repeat, and I just finished my first skein of yarn, so I have to take a break to wind the next. I hope it turns out at as well as yours did. Congratulations!

Brenda, the shawl is beautiful. I know what you mean about not putting it down. I think it is that one more row "thing".
